Outdated To Updated Part 1: Bass Boat Breakdown
By Thomas Allen
The first installment of turning an older boat into a fully modern fishing rig. This is the breakdown of a Ranger bass boat.
Welcome to Part 1 of an extensive 10-plus-part series about turning an older boat into a modern fishing machine. The purpose to this whole project is to illustrate that you can, indeed, transition a boat with a few years on it into rig that features the most technologically advanced electronics that today’s anglers demand. Outdated To Updated Part 2: Bass Boat Interior Repairs
by Thomas Allen
The second installment of turning an older boat into a fully modern fishing rig. In this piece we handle a number of overlooked repairs.
In Part 2 of Outdated to Updated, I’ll walk you through a few interior repairs that have been needed for some time. To be honest, I’ve neglected several of these to the point that they’ve created more problems. Take it from me, it’s easier to fix one problem early than several later on. Read more.....
Outdated To Updated Part 3: Minn Kota Raptor Install
By Thomas Allen
The third installment of turning an older boat into a fully modern fishing rig. In this piece we demonstrate how to install a pair of Minn Kota Raptors.
In Part 3 of Outdated to Updated, I’m working on installing shallow-water anchors on my 2007 Ranger Z20. Outdated To Updated Part 4: Bass Boat Repower
By Thomas Allen
The fourth installment of turning an older boat into a fully modern fishing rig. In this piece we demonstrate some of the key steps to repowering a bass boat with modern battery power.
Welcome to Part 4 of Outdated to Updated, I’ll walk you through my process of repowering the main power plant of the rig by installing X2 Batteries, and some of the important lessons I learned along the way. One of the tools I’d highly suggest for this step, and upcoming steps is a 10-ton Hydraulic Wire Battery Cable Lug/Terminal Crimper. I’ll give credit where credit is due, my buddy and regular In-Fisherman contributor Ross Robertson turned me onto this idea, and it’s made this entire project much easier. Get one. They’re not expensive at all. Read more.....
Outdated To Updated Part 5: BBT Customized Dash Graph Mounts
By Thomas Allen
In the fifth installment of turning an older boat into a fully modern fishing rig, we demonstrate how to install a customized dash graph mount built specifically for my Ranger Z20.
We’re moving right along, here is Part 5 of “Outdated to Updated.” In this installment I’ll demonstrate the process of replacing existing hardware at the dash of my Ranger with custom components from Bass Boat Technologies. I’m still beyond impressed with the options BBT offers, they make custom parts for an extremely long list of boats, even rigs substantially older than mine. Without a company like them, this project doesn’t happen. Period. Read more.....
